Globalization is typically
considered to be a world-wide
competition of companies with regard
to factor cost and productivity.
Reduced to this approach, the outcome
of the competition is rather clear.
However, conceived in its complete
dimension, globalization is rather the
competition in creative product design
and the successive realization of
product cost by high productivity and/or
low factor cost.
In product development,
Design-to-Cost plays a crucial role.
Our objective is to promote this issue
from the very start, that is, during
the education of future engineers.
In co-operation with professors
of FH Deggendorf
(regularly achieving top
positions in university rankings)
we carry out a DTC competition and
award the most
creative and effective solution for
cost optimization with regard to a
given technical problem. The
competition is carried out together
with an industrial partner from
electronics, mechatronics or
automation who in this way can take up
the new ideas and approaches.
Our objective is to show that
innovation is a comprehensive approach
of product concept, function, cost and
manufacturing technology.
